FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Rebound WA Para Sport Festival 2023 Celebrated Inclusion and Achievements of Para Athletes
Perth, Australia – The Rebound WA Para Sport Festival 2023, held from March 10th, was a resounding success, celebrating the Para sports in the heart of Perth, Western Australia. The festival brought together a range of organisations providing recreation and sport opportunities for Western Australians with physical disabilities and blindness.
The festival was organized by Rebound WA, a not-for-profit organization that aims to empower people with physical disabilities through sports and recreation. This year’s festival featured a variety of sports, including wheelchair basketball, wheelchair AFL:, wheelchair rugby, lawn bowls, blind sports, and powerchair football.
Rebound WA released a short video capturing the event’s magic for all attendees, with and without disabilities.
The festival’s highlights included the active zones, where attendees could cheer on athletes compete in wheelchair sports, hop in a wheelchair to have-a-go at basketball, or put on a blindfold and try GoalBall and AFL Blind. The demo games showcased athletes’ incredible skills and competitiveness while the activities gave attendees the chance to try sports.
Apart from the active zones, the festival included a community fair with participating organisations- Paralympics Australia, WA Bowls, WA All Abilities Football Association, Western Electric Sporting Association, and Wheelchair Rugby WA. There was also face painting, balloons, and live music. These activities allowed Para athletes, their families, and the community to come together and celebrate adaptive sporting options in WA.
The Rebound WA Para Sport Festival 2023 was a testament to the spirit of community, and fun that Para sports and recreation options offer those with physical and vision disabilities. The event aimed to challenge stereotypes and break down barriers, showcasing the abilities and achievements of para athletes and promoting inclusivity in sports.
Rebound WA is grateful to all the athletes, volunteers, and generous sponsorship from the Department of Local Government, Sport, and Cultural Industries who helped make the event a success. The organization looks forward to hosting more such events in the future and continuing its mission to empower people with physical disabilities through sports and recreation.
