New Year, New Name, New Era

New Year, New Name, New Era

Wheelchair Sports WA is changing its name to Rebound WA.

For over 60 years, Wheelchair Sports WA has been helping people with physical disabilities to live fuller, healthier and more active lives. WA led the way in wheelchair sport in Australia when it was introduced in 1954 at Shenton Park Rehabilitation Hospital. Since then, Wheelchair Sports WA has continually expanded its service delivery to support many Western Australians to improve their quality of life.

We are immensely proud of our history and celebrate the successes of all of our members. Some have competed on an international stage and have recognisable names, such as paralympians Frank Ponta in athletics and basketball, Louise Sauvage in track and Priya Cooper in swimming. Many however are not household names. These are people whose drive, spirit and determination enables them to go beyond possibility. With some assistance from us, they achieve their goals and live life to its fullest potential.

We’ve made a significant contribution to the WA community and real difference in so many people’s lives. However our name was no longer telling our full story – we are not just wheelchairs and we are not just sport. So it was time to make a change. Time for a new name that relects what we really do.

People living with a physical disability can face barriers – both external and internal. By helping them to explore possibilities in sport, recreation and life, and by connecting them to peer support and an active community, we assist people to rebound from adversity. We provide encouragement, information, advocacy, sport, activities and community for our members.

Rebound WA helps people to build confidence and engage with possibility.

We are the same organisation with the same membership and the same services. Only the name is changing. Over the coming weeks and months, we will introduce the new name and logo on our member communications, social media, marketing material and signage and in February 2017, we will launch our new website.
